We’ve just hit the first “normal” week at school this year, and I’m exhausted already. It’s not a physical exhaustion either. Yeah, I messed my back up last Monday (although I am doing better, thank you!). It’s just that I am mentally and emotionally drained.
These past 2-3 weeks haven’t gone as smoothly as they could have at work. And although some of it is my fault, much of it is beyond my control. But being the department head, it’s my responsibility — even when it’s not my fault — even when the slacking of other departments lend to delays in my department. It just sucks.
And between opening a remodeled kitchen that simply isn’t as functional as it should be, and between training a new manager, and between trying to not be dragged into a campus full of gossip-encircling cat-like stirrer-uppers, I’m down-right tired! It’s not like I was looking for more of a challenge.
And now I have to make it up to them? to the folks who’ve propagated much of the mess to begin with? Ugh… seems like such a fallacy… but that’s the curse of being in the service industry… “they“‘re always right, even when they aren’t. I just wish that perception wasn’t looked at as a reality. Enough about that!
So… if all goes well, then this piece of great news should be taking place in the next week. We’re closing in on a probable September 20th date by which the news would become a reality. Nope, I’m not going to spill the beans yet, but I will say that there’s another little hint in this paragraph, too! Lastly, once it’s all done, I’ll write about it. Countdown: seven days!!!
Lastly, as many of you know, I’m a big Kevin Smith fan. I have all of his movies on DVD, including An Evening with Kevin Smith, which is basically a 2 disc stage-interview, where he further explains some of his storylines, and gives some funny tales about some of his other experiences (his story about working with Prince is the absolute funniest). Well, in the last week or so, I’ve had some good Kevin Smith news!
1) Go buy Jersey Girl. or at least rent it. It’s a different type of humor than Clerks, and Jay & Silent Bob, but it has a really funny, and really sweet storyline. Ben Affleck having the “sex talk” with his 7 year old daughter, and then having it happen in reverse comes close to the ever elusive “classic” moniker of comedy.
2) Beginning filming in early 2005 will be “Clerks 2: The Passion of the Clerks”. Yep, Kev’s going back to his roots. He’s going to make this a low budget (he mentioned $250k, which although is nearly 10 times the budget of the original “Clerks” pales in comparison to most movies today) film, and I’m sure it’s going to go back to the style of humor that started it all. I have no idea on release dates, but this is one I can’t wait for!!!
Oh yeah… only two weeks until “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, 3 weeks unti “Mortal Kombat: Deception”, and 6 weeks until “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas”. Some fun’s ahead!!!
Lastly (and really this time), go rent or buy “Jersey Girl”. I’m tellin’ you!
