Why? Why not?Hoos for Hokies
I got a phone call on Wednesday from a friend, a UVa grad, telling me about this. The students at UVa have painted the Beta Bridge with the above message, “Hoos for Hokies”.
Beta Bridge is a bridge at UVA that’s constantly painted and repainted to publicize an event or sentiment or whatnot, from political rallies to 21st birthdays to fundraisers to concerts. (Who knows how thick the layers of paint are after all these years.)
This has to be one of the coolest things I’ve seen or heard. And I know that us Hokies appreciate it more than anyone can even imagine.

Tragedy
Unbelievable…
It’s all I can really say.
Unbelievable…
This tragedy, albeit years removed is hitting home. In case you haven’t turned on the TV or looked at a news site today, here’s a summary:
…
The massacre took place at opposite sides of the 2,600-acre campus, beginning at about 7:15 a.m. at West Ambler Johnston, a coed dormitory that houses 895 people, and continuing at least two hours later at Norris Hall, an engineering building about a half-mile away, authorities said.
Two people were killed in a dormitory room, and 31 others were killed in the classroom building, including the gunman, police said.
I am a Hokie. A damn proud one. I am saddened and shocked at what transpired earlier today on MY campus. Being an engineer, I’ve spent plenty of time in Norris Hall. I lived 3 years across a small field from Ambler-Johnston dorm (we called it AJ). Even though it’s been years since I’ve graduated, the victims are fellow Hokies. I do not know them, but we’re still a big family.
Please know, Hokies, I’m praying for all of you and your families.
Alanis does it too…
OK, so it’s not as good as Jenny Owen Youngs singing “Hot in Herre”, but Alanis has put out a video covering a pop/rap song in her own style… Following, is Alanis’s Humps:
Yeah, it’s funny… alarmingly so… but I think JOY’s “Hot in Herre” is funnier (I have mentioned that I used to play George Michael’s “Faith” acoustically, right? j/k — but that was funny).
New Music, aka “You Know Me…”, aka ” ‘les you gon’ do it!”
Anyone who knows me really well is aware that I LOVE hearing some music that “shouldn’t” be played on an acoustic guitar being played acoustically. Remember how I was playing “Faith” by George Michael BEFORE Limp Bizkit re-did it? Except I was playing it as a joke…
Anyways, I’ve found a new song that has that same sense of humor. An artist named Jenny Owen Youngs has recorded an acoustic/folk/pop version of Nelly’s “Hot in Herre”. The song is funny yet catchy, even sultry. She uses her Edie Brickell-type voice to nearly rap the song all the while playing her acoustic guitar. Hell, she’s even faithful to the original by being grammatically incorrect (“Give that man what he askin for”). Check it out, you might find it funny too.

I’d be apathetic if I weren’t so lethargic.
